Getting There...

By Road:
Route 1: Mumbai-Goa Highway or NH17 is the most popular and picturesque road to reach Savantwadi. The approximate distance is 525 Km and takes about 10-12 hours with decent breaks to the journey in between.

Route 2 NH4: The other alternate route is the NH4, starting from Mumbai via Pune (on the expressway), then Satara, Kolhapur (on the Pune Bangalore Highway), and taking the right from Nipani, to cross Uttur, Ajara, and Amboli to reach Savantwadi. You could also go ahead a bit (13 km) from Nipani towards Sankeshwar and take a right towards Gadhinglaj and then reach Ajra, bypassing Uttur. This route, though adds up a few kms, has better road quality. The approximate distance is 550 Kms, where one can cover the Mumbai-Kolhapur distance in 6 hours and Kolhapur-Savantwadi in 3 hours.

The nearest airport, Panjim (Goa) is approx. 80 Kms from Savantwadi. Most airlines fly to Goa.

Hotel Mango

Review: Mango is one of the better hotels in this area. Situated in the heart of the city, works both to its advantage and disadvantage. Mango, located on the "Main" road, is within walkable distance of all spots in the city. As its in the heart of the city, the sorroundings leave a lot to be desired. The ambience and averall decor is unexpectedly very upmarket. Rooms are well maintained and of good size. I have stayed in all types of rooms, and they are good. The T2 restaurant is good, and food quality is better than most upmarket restaurants in Mumbai. Both Vegetarian and Non-Vegetarian (Chicken) food is excellent. Please avoid fish though, as it is not really good value for money, both in size and taste. Please avoid rush hours (1-2 pm and 8:30 to 9:30 pm) in the restaurant, as the service levels drop considerably, due to service load and food takes too long to be served. The cost of stay here is around a 1250 Rs. per day, in peak season

1. This review is based on my stay in this hotel 3 times in last 2 years, and have had food in the T2 restaurant atleast 20 times in past 2 years.

Review: I have stayed in this hotel almost 3 years back, hence I have no idea about its current service levels. The hotel is very far off from the Savantwadi city (almost 6 Kms), but is very close to the railway station. My stay was comfortable, except for the fact that it was pricey compared to the facilities it offered and very slow response to service calls.

1. I think, they used to accept credit cards, but better call up and confirm.

TRC [Tourist Reception Centre]

Review: I have never stayed here for more than a day at a stretch, but eaten quite a number of times. This property is managed by Kamat Hotels. The food quality is ok, but they serve only vegetarian food. The USP is its location. It is on the NH17, in the heart of the city yet away from the hustle bustle. Many of its rooms open-up on the Lake side, making the view very picturesque..
