  1. Your road map was gr8. Thanx a lot for posting it on the blog. This is the first time i will be travelling this route. I usually go the old NH 17. I really hope I dont miss the turn at Nipani coz a lot of people have told me that if one misses Nipani u head straight to Belgaum as the sign postings are very small

  2. Even if you miss the nipani right turn you could go ahead a bit (13 km) from Nipani towards Sankeshwar and take a right towards Gadhinglaj and then reach Ajra, bypassing Uttur. This route though adds up a few kms has better roads.

  3. Can you please let me know which road would be better at this time of the year, while travelling from Pune to Goa:

    (a) Sankeshwar-Ajra-Gadhinglaj-Amboli-Sawantwadi OR

    (b) Kolhapur-Gagan Bawda - Tarle - Kankavli-Kudal-Sawantwadi on NH 17

  4. Well, generally option (a) Sankeshwar-Ajra-Gadhinglaj-Amboli-Savantwadi is always better for motoring, than option (b) Kolhapur-Gagan Bawda - Tarle - Kankavli-Kudal-Sawantwadi.

But it depends largely on your purpose of the trip. If you are traveling with your family/kids/old members, reaching Goa safely and quickly is of course the Goal, then option (a) is the best choice, dont even think of (b).

But in case you are with friends (or only young adults), you want to make the journey as interesting, want to halt as many times you want and enjoy the scenic beauty, option (b) would be wiser (more thrills).

Make choice, and do let me know how it went.... wish you a happy and safe journey.

  6. During monsoon, it makes more sense to go via NH4 i.e. Mumbai-Pune-Satara-Kolhapur-Sankeshwar-Gadhinglaj-Ajra-Amboli-Savantwadi route.

In case you are travelling from Mumbai, an ideal itinerary (considering you are travelling with a 3year old kid) would be to leave Mumbai at around 3 pm, reach Kolhapur at around 9-9:30 pm take a overnight halt at Kolhapur (Hotel Rayson, approx 3 km from the highway www.raysonsregency.com: I usually stay here), and leave for Goa/Savantwadi in the morning post breakfast at around 8 am, you should reach Savantwadi by 12 noon.

Though having breathtaking views it might be better if you avoid Mumbai-Goa route (NH17)

    Happy journey
